“We are facing a harrowing time due to the dilapidated condition of Paltan Bazar market road. In 2010-11, the road was repaired but after that no repair work has been done. Due to the pathetic condition of the road, water logging  has become a problem and during the rainy season the people have to cross the road wading through drain water. The clogged drains lead to over flow of water on the road,” said Ammamudding Ahmed, social activist and Secretary of Dihing Welfare Society.

He said they requested ward commissioner and Dibrugarh MLA for the construction of the road but they didn’t take the matter seriously.

“Many school children have to go through that road and during rainy season they have to face lots of problems. The first shower of monsoon will put the things in worst shape and also chances of outbreak of epidemic disease is possible due to waterlogging inside several houses,” Ahmed added. He said they have submitted memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri.

Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH) road has been in a pathetic condition for last several months and the patients are facing problems. No repair work has been done on the road so far. “Everyday we cross the road and have to face heavy jerking which creats problems in my back. It seems that the Public Works Department is not taking the matter seriously. Most of Dibrugarh roads are in a bad condition but the concerned department is not bothered about the problems of the common citizen,” said Raju Khanikor, a resident of Dibrugarh.

Every year during rainy season out of 22 DMB wards, most of the wards face waterlogging due to bad drainage and road conditions.

“Why the roads were not well constructed. Every year the condition of Dibrugarh roads become pathetic and as a result the common people have to face problems. They should repair the road now but it seems that when rain started they will start their work,” a senior citizen alleged.
