The NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appointed senior BJP leader from Dhubri district of Assam – Bimal Oswal as independent director in the Board of North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO).
The order issued by the Ministry of Power, Government of India vide File No.14-37/43/2021-H.I (259063) said, “In exercise of the power conferred under the Article 75 of the Articles of Association of the NEEPCO, President of India is pleased to appoint Shri Bimal Oswal as Non-official Independent Director on the Board of NEEPCO for a period of three years w.e.f the date of notification of their appointment or until further orders.”
“The appointment of Bimal Oswal as Non-official Independent Director shall be at the pleasure of the President and shall be subject to such terms and conditions as may be deemed fit by the President of India from time to time, in accordance with the Articles of Association of NEEPCO,” the ordr said.
The payment of TA/DA and sitting fees of the above Non-official Independent Director for attending meetings of the Board of NEEPCO shall be in accordance with the instructions on the subject Issued by Department of Public Enterprises from time to time, the order added.

Bimal Oswal, a resident of Dhubri town is a well-known social worker and one among the senior BJP leaders in lower Assam.
Oswal’s father Dr Pannalal Oswal was also a renowned physician of Dhubri district and was a dedicated leader of the saffron party.
Dr.Pannalal Oswal, who had earlier contested from the Dhubri Lok Sabha constituency as a BJP candidate was kidnapped and killed in the year 1999 by the suspected militants of ULFA.
Meanwhile, the Dhubri district unit of BJP has expressed gratitude to PM Modi following appointment of Bimal Oswal as an independent director of the NEEPCO.
