Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma, on Thursday, unveiled a statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the premises of University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya (USTM).ย 

Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma visited the USTM to โ€œcongratulate and address the students, teachersโ€ on โ€œbecoming the first private university from the North East Indiaโ€ to be ranked Grade โ€˜Aโ€™ by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).ย 

Speaking on the occasion, Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma said, โ€œIt is the leadership and teamwork at USTM that has gone to achieve such big success as Grade โ€˜Aโ€™.โ€ย

The programme was also attended by Dr SP Aggarwal, Director of NESAC, department of space, government of India and Prof Prabha Kr Shukla, vice chancellor of NEHU among others.ย ย

Earlier, welcoming the gathering, Mahbubul Hoque, chancellor of USTM said that he is committed to the development of science and technology education and research in the region and to make USTM a world class university by 2030.ย 

โ€œA university becomes world class not because of its infrastructure; itโ€™s only by virtue of its research background and we are committed for that,โ€ he said.ย
