A day after the sensational gang-rape of a minor in Batadraba in Assam’s Nagaon district, police succeeded in arresting prime accused Jakir Hussain on Sunday evening.
Police officials said Jakir was arrested by a special team of Police from Itapara area in Ngaon district. Sources in Police said he would be produced at Nagaon court on Monday.
Acting on a tip off, sleuths of Nagaon Police started tracking his mobile calls of Jakir, who was absconding since the incident on Friday.
Police said he was track down at Itapara when he had made a phone call to one of his friends this evening.
“Soon after he was located somewhere near Itapara, police started zeroing on him,” official said.
The 11-year-old class V student was allegedly gang-raped and burnt to death on Friday afternoon by a group of three miscreants at Dhaniabheti Lalung Gaon under Batadraba police station in Nagaon district.
After raping the girl, the miscreants splashed kerosene on her body and burnt her to death.
Police have already arrested the two juveniles but the prime accused Jakir was on the run.
People of Lalunggaon on Saturday destroyed absconder Jakir’s house. Students’ organisation such as the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Satra Mukti Sangram Samiti (SMSS) and AIDSO carried out massive protest rallies demanding stern action against the accused.
