In an aerial survey to find out the cause of Kameng river turning turbid, it was observed that in Warriyang Bung river, there was intense erosion of riverbanks resulting in deposition of mud, debris, boulders, and trees.
It was also observed that the erosion happened approximately up to 30 km downstream of Warriyang Bung river.
The aerial survey was conducted by secretary (DM), deputy commissioner, East Kameng district (Seppa), independent researcher Chintan Seth and NDRF official.

Through aerial survey, it was observed that in the Warriyang Bung River there was intense erosion of riverbanks resulting in deposition of mud, debris, boulders, and trees.
“This could be possibly due to a landslide/avalanche on the upper reaches of Warriyang Bung river which could not be observed due to presence of thick clouds,” according to the bulletin on the Kameng river situation, issued by East Kameng deputy commissioner Ravimal Abhishek Polumatla.

As per the independent researcher, the following are certain observations based on aerial survey and satellite imagery.
The width of the Warriyang Bung river has increased to a certain extent due to erosion.
“It was observed that the erosion happened approximately up to 30 kms downstream,” according to the bulletin.
Preliminary observation shows that no waterbody has been formed along the river.
However, continuous monitoring is going on, as per the bulletin.
“The situation will be closely monitored for the next 48 hours, and the public is advised to follow the directions already issued by the district administration,” the East Kameng DC mentioned in the bulletin.
