The Assam Cabinet under the chairmanship of chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in Guwahati on Tuesday took several key decisions.
Sharing the decisions of the Cabinet on his Twitter handle on Tuesday, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote: “At the weekly #AssamCabinet, we took several major decisions regarding improvement of power scenario, release of fund for MOITRI, implementation of ASRIP and tea wages, among others.”

The Assam Cabinet decided to include 89 revenue villages under Sissi Tangani Tribal Belt in the Dhemaji district.
As per the Cabinet decision, Faith & Culture Directorate of Indigenous and Tribal Faith and Culture, Assam and its subordinate offices will be created
The Assam Cabinet reviewed the earlier Cabinet decision of closing Fair Price (FP) shops having 50 or less NFSA Ration Cards, but decided to allow widows and specially-abled FP shop owners to continue their operation.
The Cabinet took a decision to instal 9,000 distribution transformers and 70 pre-fabricated compact sub-stations (PCSS).
It also decided that 11 power transformers will be procured & installed, and 4,200 damaged distribution transformers will be repaired at a cost of Rs 2250.08 crore for improving voltage & reducing power distribution losses.
The Assam Cabinet has decided that a total of 4,80,249 un-electrified households will be electrified – 4,09,050 households under on-grid mode and 71,199 households under off-grid mode – at a cost of Rs 21718.18 crore.
The Cabinet approved electrification of 48,231 Anganwadi Centres and 13,120 primary schools with financial involvement of Rs 2161.42 crore.
The Cabinet has approved the implementation of smart metering project for installing 6,20,100 smart meters to improve billing process and energy accounting, thereby reducing commercial losses
A proposal has been approved for release of Rs 2120.00 crore as grant-in-aid to Moitri Society under the Mission for Overall Improvement of Thana for Responsive Image (MOITRI) scheme in 2021-22.
Administrative approval has been given to estimate for project preparation and implementation of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB)-aided Assam Secondary Road Network Improvement Project (ASRIP).
Orang Tiger Conservation Foundation Trust will be constituted under the Section 38(X) of Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 to support management and conservation of tiger and biodiversity in the Orang Tiger Reserve.
PCCF Wildlife will complete the formalities of registration of the Trust.
It was decided that the Tea Wages Labour Department will explore possibility of exempting wages of tea garden workers from the purview of National Level Floor Wage as envisaged in Code of Wages, 2019.
The Cabinet approved to prepare a draft notification on Code of Wages Assam Rules, 2021.
