The United Democratic Alliance (UDA), the all-party opposition-less government in Nagaland, welcomed the positive steps taken by the Government of India on the ongoing Indo-Naga political dialogue that include the appointment of a single person as interlocutor with all the negotiating parties.

In its first meeting at the chief minister’s residential complex on Tuesday after its formation recently, the UDA adopted a four-point resolution.

The UDA was formed by the 59 MLAs of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), BJP and Naga People’s Front (NPF) along with two Independent legislators in the 60-member Nagaland Assembly for the cause of Naga political issue.  One seat in the state is lying vacant.

Appreciating the serious commitment of the Government of India towards the Indo-Naga peace process, the UDA lauded the resumption of Naga talks and the decision of the Naga political groups to resume the peace process by proceeding to New Delhi for the continuation of the negotiation process.

It acknowledged the desire and feeling of the Naga people which has been expressed through consultative meetings and resolutions calling for an early, honourable, acceptable and inclusive solution.

The meeting upheld the resolutions of the civil societies, the Nagaland Legislative Assembly and the series of consultative meetings.

It appealed to the negotiating parties to respond to the cry of the people and bring the protracted Indo-Naga political issue to its logical conclusion at the earliest possible.

The UDA also resolved to make every possible effort to play the role of active facilitator towards the peace process and the ongoing negotiations.

It urged all sections of people to continue to work towards unity, reconciliation and oneness in order to prepare a positive landing ground for the long-awaited solution.

The resolutions were signed by chief minister Neiphiu Rio, deputy chief minister Y Patton, NPF Legislature Party leader TR Zeliang, NDPP president Chingwang Konyak, state BJP president Temjen Imna Along and NPF working president Huska Yepthomi.
