A four-member Central team led by Dr Vinita Gupta, a consultant epidemiologist at  National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in Delhi arrived in Aizawl on Tuesday to assess the rising Covid-19 transmission in the state, an official statement said.

Other members of the team included Dr Varun Singh, an epidemiologist from NCDC, Dr. LA Singh, Regional Director and Dr RK Priyabata Singh, CMO (SAG), both from the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare regional office in Imphal.

Soon after their arrival in the state capital on Tuesday, the Multi-Disciplinary Covid-19 Study Team sent by the Centre, held a meeting with officials of State Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), Chief Medical Officers (CMOs) of Aizawl East and Aizawl West and other health officials to review the Covid-19 situation of the state especially Aizawl district, which is worst affected, the statement said.

The team will hold a virtual meeting with Chief Medical Officers of various districts on Wednesday to review and assess the Covid-19 situation of every district, it said.

They will also visit various Covid-19 Care Facilities within Aizawl West on Wednesday, it said.

The statement further said that the Central team will also pay a visit to the Champhai district on Thursday to assess the Covid-19 situation of the district, which borders Myanmar.

Mizoram continues to register a spike in Covid-19 cases as the state reported at least 1,681 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, pushing the state’s tally to 99,856, a health department official said.

The death toll rose to 331 as five more people have succumbed to the infection, he said.

The single-day positivity rate was 18 per cent as the fresh cases were detected from 9,331 sample tests, he said.

At least 322 children were among the newly infected people, he said.

The number of active cases now stands at 15,075, while 84,450 people have recovered from the infection, including 831 people on Tuesday till 5 pm, according to a government bulletin.

The state has tested more than 11.30 lakh samples for Covid-19 till now.

Over 6.82 lakh people have been vaccinated till Monday, of which 4.51 lakh people have received full doses.
