The Assam Congress has launched an all-out attack against the state government against the “police brutality” during the eviction drive in Sipajhar on Thursday.
The Assam Congress, led by state unit president Bhupen Borah took out a protest rally in Mangaldoi against the incident of police opening fire on protestors during the eviction drive in Sipajhar.
The Assam Congress leaders and workers also staged a demonstration in front of the office of the deputy commissioner of Darrang district.
Top Assam Congress leaders including Bhupen Borah, Ripun Bora, Rakibul Hussain and Debabrata Saikia took part in the protest rally.

“We Assam Congress demand immediate suspension of Darrang deputy commissioner and superintendent of police,” Bhupen Borah said.
Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora said that immediate transfer of the Darrang DC and SP is necessary for a ‘transparent’ judicial inquiry.
Notably, Sushanta Biswa Sarma, the SP of Assam’s Darrang district, is the brother of Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The Assam government has ordered a judicial inquiry into the clashes that broke out in Assam’s Sipajhar on Thursday during an eviction drive.
