Assam Minister for development of the Tea Tribes, Pallab Lochan Das on Thursday said that the tea tribe community has been looked down upon by several quarters on many occasions.
He said this while addressing media persons at the Janata Bhawan in Guwahati.

Das also asserted that no one has the right to question the ingenuity of the tea tribes people, adding that the tea tribes are suffering from a sense of insecurity during recent times.
The minister also said that the present government had taken several plans to honour the prominent freedom fighters of the tea tribes community who were never recognized by the previous governments.
He also announced that the State Government will construct at auditoriums in 50 tea gardens of the State and an archery academy for women would be set up at Sonari in Charaideo district in memory of martyr Mangri Orang.

The Minister also said that the government has taken up a slew of other projects like construction of a football academy at Rangapara in Sonitpur district and another at Dibrugarh or Tinsukia district in honour of Mangal Kurku and Dayal Das Panika, the tea tribes leaders who were martyred during the Quit India Movement at Dhekiajuli in 1942.
The State Government is also planning to construct two statues of Santosh Kumar Topno and Simon Singh Horo, the founder general secretary and president respectively of Assam Tea Tribes Students’ Association, Minister Das further added.
