The Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA) has announced a unilateral cease with the government with effect from September 7, 2021.

Announcing this, the militant outfit in a press release issued on Wednesday said they have declared the unilateral ceasefire as a goodwill gesture and positive response to the call of Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa for peace.

In the release, issued by the publicity secretary of DNLA, Mungsri Ringsmai Dimasa, the outfit said they have declared the ceasefire paving a way for peace talks with the Assam government and the Centre.

“As a goodwill gesture and as a positive response to the call of peace by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, we, the DNLA, is hereby declaring ‘Unilateral Ceasefire’ on 7th Sept. 2021 for six months for creating an atmosphere for peace talks with the Govt of Assam and Govt of India,” the release said.

According to sources, the decision of declaring a ceasefire came after police and other security forces intensified operation against the outfit after it killed 5 people in Dima Hasao.

As many as five people lost their lives after DNLA militants opened indiscriminate firing in Dima Hasao district.

The DNLA militants targeted seven coal-laden trucks by firing indiscriminately at them and later setting them ablaze.

The incident took place at Diyungmukh area in Dima Hasao late on August 26 evening.

The trucks were heading towards Lanka in Hojai district from Umrangso in Dima Hasao district.

Later, five charred bodies were recovered from the burnt trucks.

Two truck drivers were shot dead, while three others were burnt to death when their vehicles were set ablaze by the militants, police said.

A joint combing operation was launched by police, Army and Assam Rifles personnel to hunt down the militants.
