The flood situation in Assam has improved considerably over the past 48 hours.

Water levels of major rivers in Assam have receded leading to improvement in the flood situation in the state.

However, over 1.76 lakh people in 17 districts of Assam are still affected by the deluge.

Meanwhile, one more death due to the first wave of floods has been reported in Assam.

The death toll in Assam due to the floods has climbed to seven owing to this fresh death case.

As many as 863 villages in 42 revenue circles are still reeling under floodwaters.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), a total of 23,884 hectares of croplands have been damaged due to flooding.

Golaghat is the worst-hit district with 63,984 people suffering, followed by Darrang and Morigaon.

The Brahmaputra river was flowing above the danger level at two places in Jorhat and Dhubri districts.
