In a twist of turn in the political equation of Assam, the former ally of BJP, Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) has formally approached the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led BJP government to be a partner at Dispur.

Ahead of the Assam Assembly election 2021, Hagrama Mohilary-led BPF merged with the Congress-led Mahajot.

Senior Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) leader Prabin Boro said, “We have formally approached the BJP in the state to be a partner in the ruling dispensation and work for the growth and development of the society and not remain idle by remaining in the opposition.”

Boro said, “Now and then, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has stressed the need for an inclusive government by taking everyone, who seeks to be a part of the government. This makes sense that our approach will yield a ‘positive ‘ result.”

He further lamented that the Congress-led Mahajot failed to perform in the last Assam Assembly polls and there can be no meaning of BPF remaining in the pre-poll Mahajot alliance after the polls.

Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) deputy chief executive member (CEM) and United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) leader Gobinda Basumatary reacting upon the political developments said anything is possible in politics, even an alliance between the UPPL and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) in the BTC.

“To say, in politics nothing is impossible. Sometimes we have seen that the opposite parties have come together and running the government. If that happens here also then it should not come as a surprise as all the political activities depend on the political situations,” Basumatary said.
