With the distribution of young scientists’ awards to 14 best scientific paper presenters and best exhibitors’ awards, the 105th edition of Indian Science Congress (ISC), the biggest gathering of scientists of the country, came to an end at the picturesque campus of the Manipur University at Canchipur, six km south of Imphal town on Tuesday evening.

General President-elect, 106th Indian Science Congress Association, Prof Manoj Kumar Chakrabarti announced that the 106th edition of the Indian Science Congress will be held next year from January 3-7, 2019 at Barkatullah University in Bhopal, with the theme, ‘Future India: Science & Technology’.

Manipur Governor Dr Najma Heptulla,Manipur Assembly Speaker Yumnam Khemchand, general president of Indian Science Congress Association Dr Achyuta Samanta, vice president of Manipur University, Prof A P Pandey, ISC organizing secretaries, Prof Arun Kumar, Prof W Vishwanath  and others functionaries of the ISCA attended the closing function of the Science Congress.

Manipur Assembly Speaker Khemchand, general president of ISCA, Dr Samanta, former general president of ISCA, Ashok Saxena, ISCA general secretary Gangadhar and Prof A P Pandey also spoke on the occasion wherein fourteen best paper presenters from across the country were awarded best young scientists awards.

The young scientists’ award consists of a cheque of Rs 25,000 and a certificate of merit.

The exhibitors – on innovative, interactive, design, state, informative, recognition etc in the five-day long science expo popularly known as pride of India Expo were also honoured during the valedictory function.

Besides holding scientific discussions and knowledge sharing by scientists and experts coming from various parts of the country and abroad through 14 different science sections, the Children’s Science Congress, Women’s Science Congress and a science communicators meet were also organized as part of the ISC after the Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Congress on March 16 last.

Imphal became the second city in the North-east to host the prestigious event after Shillong in 2009.

Earlier, the ISC – the largest gathering of Indian scientists – was scheduled at Osmania University, Hyderabad, from January 3 to 7.
