Alak Kumar Ghosh

Former Mariani MLA Alak Kumar Ghose passed away at a hospital in Siliguri after months of illness.

Ghose served as an MLA for two years after winning a by-election in 2004.

He was 62 years old.

Ghose was a former leader of the National Congress Party (NCP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

After being denied a party ticket by the BJP in the Assam Assembly election 2021, Ghose filed his nomination from the Mariani seat as a candidate of Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP).

However, his nomination was cancelled.

Union ports, shipping & AYUSH minister Sarbananda Sonowal tweeted: “Saddened to learn about the demise of former Mariani MLA and veteran @BJP4Assam karyakarta Alok Kumar Ghosh. A noted social worker, his demise is a huge loss for all of us. My deepest condolences and prayers for the departed soul. Om Shanti.”

Assam power & sports minister Bimal Borah tweeted:  “Saddened to learn about the demise of former MLA of Mariani and a veteran karyakarta of @BJP4Assam Alok Kumar Ghosh.”

“A dedicated social worker, his role in strengthening the party in the region was immense. My sincere condolences to the bereaved family members,” Borah added.

Assam education minister Dr Ranoj Pegu tweeted: “Pained to learn the demise of former Mariani MLA Alok Kumar Ghosh dangoriya. May his soul rest in peace. My condolences to the family.”
