AOD Digboi Refinery was among the third in the row to win the shield for its continued commitment to prevent fire, accident and implement fire safety standards in refinery operation. BV Rama Gopal, Director, Refineries, IndianOil, presented the AV Ogale Shield, which was instituted in the memory of late IOCIAN, AV Ogale.
According to AOD official sources, the award was instituted following the sacrifice of AV Ogale, a Senior Production Engineer, who, unfortunately, lost his life in an accident on July 10, 1980 at Haldia Refinery. The shield was presented to the Refinery, qualifying refinery units for displaying consistent performance over a period of three years, in the vital sphere of fire and safety.
“Every year, AV Ogale Shield is presented to the Refinery with least number of fire incidents. For evaluation, the points are calculated on the basis of size of the fire and loss in terms of rupees. The selection committee examines the data pertaining to fire and fatal incidents in respect of operating Refinery Units (including PNC). As per the policy, the unit(s) securing minimum number of points is declared the winner of the shield,” said Sabeena Chowdhary, the Manger (Corporate Communication), AOD, Digboi.
