Ending all speculations, two-time Congress MLA Sushanta Borgohain on Sunday joined BJP in the party state headquarters in Guwahati.

Borgoaib resigned from the primary membership of the Congress party on Friday blaming the “internal political atmosphere” in the party.

Speaking on the occasion, the ex-Congress MLA thanked Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and former CM Sarbananda Sonowal for welcoming him to the BJP.

“I would like to thank you for welcoming me to the BJP fold.      It was beyond my imagination when I had joined the Congress party that one day I will have to desert the party,” Borgohain said.

The former Congress MLA said that he has joined the party to serve the people and at the interest of the development of Assam.

Borgohain, an MLA from upper Assam’s Thowra constituency, also quit the state assembly on Saturday.

He is the second Congress MLA to join the BJP since Himanta Biswa Sarma-led BJP government took charge in the state.

Earlier, Rupjyoti Kurmi, who was the lone Congress MLA from the Tea Tribe community, had resigned as a legislator in June and joined the BJP.
