The valedictory function of two-day Children’s Science Congress held for the first time in the backdrop of the 105th Indian Science Congress (ISC) under the theme “Reaching the Unreached Through Science and Technology” came to its end at the Academic building, MIT block of Manipur University on Sunday evening.
In his brief address, Manipur University Vice-Chancellor AP Pandey said the young students are the future scientists of the country. Outlining the importance of the Children’s Science Congress, he said it is an important event to gauge the sharpness of the minds of young children.

In the model exhibition competition of the schools of the host state, Albert Keisam of St Joseph Higher Secondary bagged the first prize while Florence Lalremsim of St Marry Higher Secondary school and K Nganthoi Sharma of Elite Academy won second and third prizes respectively.
In the poster painting competition held under the theme of solid waste management, Telen Khaidem of DAV Public school bagged the first prize while Denish Keisham of Pitambara English school and Thingujam Puja Devi of Standard Robert school won second and third prize respectively. The prize winners were given cash prizes of Rs 5000, Rs 3000 and Rs 2000 along with one citation each separately.
Consolation prize of Rs 1000 each with certificates and kits were given away to the rest of the participants as an encouragement in the day’s valedictory session.

A total of 150 students of various schools participated in the poster painting competition. Around 40 students displayed and demonstrated their scientific models in the congress. On the other hand 32 students including 29 from Telangagana displayed their models in the non-competition section. Besides 16 selected students under directorate of science and technology from across the country demonstrated their model (projects) developed and designed for a better life. The Children’s Science Congress was inaugurated by the Governor of Nagaland PB Acharya on Saturday.
