Lahowal MLA Binod Hazarika on Wednesday visited Nagaguli area of Dibrugarh to take stock of the erosion problem.

The Brahmaputra eroded huge chunk of agricultural land and many houses in the area.
“I have come to Nagaguli to take stock of the erosion problem. No measure has been taken so far to prevent erosion in the 3 km stretch of the area,” Binod Hazarika said.
“A project of Rs 5 crores with a detailed report will be prepared in the next budget session for immediate solution of the erosion problem,” he said.

Geo-bag works will not be possible because it will require more funds. Over Rs 50 crore is required to solve the erosion problem of Rohmoria.
“Every year due to erosion people are losing a large part of their land in the area. If we protect the 3km stretch of Nagaguli, then a huge land mass will be protected,” Hazarika further said.
Every year flood and erosion ravage the Rohmoria area and people have to take shelter in the relief camps.
The area has lost several kilometres of land to the mighty Brahmaputra in the past few years.
Meanwhile, the Assam government has stepped up measures to solve the flood and erosion problem in the state.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently instructed all deputy commissioners to initiate flood control measures in their respective districts.
Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS) general secretary and Doomdooma MLA Rupesh Gowala also visited the Nagaguli area with ACMS delegates to take stock of the situation.
