The Tezpur BJP on Sunday sounded its poll bugle for the upcoming panchayat elections by organising a massive rally at Misamari in Sonitpur district.

Misamari is about 25km from Dhekiajuli town.

The rally, organised by Dhekiajuli MLA Ashok Singhal, was addressed by Assam Health and education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Sarma in his speech said before the polls, schools will be provincialised and students in higher secondary level will get free textbooks.

“During the congress regime students up-to eight standard only availed free textbooks, but after BJP came to power it has materialized the project till class nine and now we are going to make the admission free for the students of the higher secondary standard,” he said.

Sarma further said the government is taking several initiatives so that over 14 lakh students can avail free admission facility in the next academic session.

Around 150 workers from different political parties including Congress leader of Misamari area Rathindra Dey joined in the BJP at the programme.
