Assam Forest Minister Parimal Suklabaidya has said that the State Government will not allow encroachment of the State’s forests by its neighbouring states.
“Will not allow encroachment of Assam’s forests by neighbouring states. Every inch of encroached land will be evicted soon,” Suklabaidya said during his visit to Lakhimpur district.

Suklabaidya also asked the Assam Forest department to ensure safety of the evicted people in the prevailing Covid situation.
He also urged MLAs from the district to extend co-operation to the Forest department on this issue.
“He (Assam Forest Minister Parimal Suklabaidya) asked the forest officials to carry out eviction drives inside the Pobha reserve forest,” an official statement read.

According to the Assam Forest Department, over 2400 hectares of forests in Lakhimpur district is under illegal possession of encroachers from Arunachal Pradesh.
On the other hand, over 4400 hectares of forest land in Lakhimpur district have been encroached upon by the locals.
Assam Forest Minister Parimal Suklabaidya further said that all the illegal sand and stone mining activities in forests of Assam’s Lakhimpur district would be stopped soon.
