Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday announced that as many as 10 new police commando battalions will be raised in the State soon.
These ten new police commando battalions will be raised in lines of the Country’s elite commando force – National Security Guards (NSG).
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that these commando battalions will be stationed in sensitive areas of the State that demand high police presence.
Sarma added that personnel of these commando battalions will be trained at different police academies across India.

Himanta Biswa Sarma made this announcement after attending the first ever Assam Police SPs Conference held in Kaziranga on Wednesday.
During the day-long conference, a slew of decisions were taken for the overall welfare of police personnel in Assam.
CM Sarma further announced that two shifts system will be introduced in all the police stations of the State, to reduce the workload of the personnel.
He said that a fresh recruitment of personnel would be conducted soon to increase manpower and introduce tw-shifts system in police stations.

He also informed that recruitment of additional 2000 Sub-Inspectors in Assam Police is being planned.
Sarma informed that all new recruitments in the Assam Police would be under the State Government’s policy of providing 1 lakh jobs to youths yearly.
Among other big announcements, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that 7 new Forensic Labs would be set up in the State, which will boost police’s investigation process in cases.
Sarma also said that a yearly health check up for all police personnel and officials would be introduced.
Moreover, the Assam Chief Minister informed that a compulsory 1 month leave would be granted to all personnel serving in different police battalions in the State “to spend time with their families”.
