Incessant pre-monsoon rains for the last 15 days have resulted in floods in several parts of Jorhat district.
The water level of River Brahmaputra at Nimatighat in Jorhat district is nearing the danger level mark.
With floods in many parts of the district and water level of River Brahmaputra at Nimatighat nearing danger mark, the Jorhat district administration on Monday reviewed the flood preparedness.
Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Barman, who is also the chairperson of District Disaster Management Authority asked the concerned departments and revenue circle officers to ensure that relief and fodder were provided to the affected people and cattle respectively in the eventuality of more severe floods.
A meeting was held by Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Barman on Monday to discuss waterlogging and artificial floods in town areas of Bekajan in Titabar subdivision in Jorhat district.

The meeting was attended by representatives of water resources department, PWD department, agriculture department, veterinary department, forest department, APDCL and fire among others.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Damodar Barman, who is the Chief Executive Officer of DDMA informed that the Brahmaputra was flowing at 84.92m, which is just a metre below the danger level (85.54m) at 8am on Monday and is showing a rising trend.
All ferry services to Majuli from Nimatighat, except for those carrying essentials and emergencies, have been suspended.
