Days after the brutal attack on a doctor in Assam’s Hojai district, which sparked rage across India, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Friday asked the Assam Government to submit a report over the incident within four weeks.
The NHRC also asked the Union Health Ministry to take measures to ensure safety of frontline health workers.
After taking cognizance of a complaint about the brutal assault on a doctor by the relatives a COVID-19 victim at Udali Model Hospital in Hojai district of Assam on June 1, the NHRC has asked Assam Chief Secretary and DGP to submit a a report on the actions taken in the case.
The Commission has also sent a copy of the complaint to the Secretary of the Union Health & Family Welfare Ministry to initiate necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of the frontline health workers in the country.

“According to the complaint, having attached media reports, the incident happened after the Covid patient had died. Allegedly, some of the frontline medical workers, Doctors, Nurses and Ward boys managed to escape but also got hurt and are deeply traumatized due to this horrific incident,” the NHRC said.
The police in Assam’s Hojai district have arrested 24 persons in connection with the brutal assault on an on-duty doctor.
The arrested 24 persons include the main perpetrators and conspirators. The arrested persons also include a woman, who was seen in the video of assault on the doctor that went viral in the social media.
The arrested persons have been identified as: 1) Md Kamaruddin 2) Md Jainal uddin 3) Rehanuddin 4) Saidul Alam 5) Rahim Uddin 6) Rajul Islam 7) Tayebur Rahman 8) Sahil Islam 9) Rahimuddin 10) Abdul Kalam 11) Nurzul Islam 12) Abdul Gumi 13) Dilwar Hussain 14) Abdul Hussain 15) Anuwar Hussain 16) Ikramul Hussain 17) Nasirrudin 18) Alimuddin 19) Jamil Ahmad 20) Sarifuddin 21) Safiquddin 22) Mofizur Rahman 23) Matibur Rahman 24) Misba Begum.
