Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on his maiden visit as the CM to Maibang unveiled the statue of Veer Dimalik Kemprai on Friday.
Chief Minister Sonowal is in Dima Hasao for the second time after being the CM.
During the statue unveiling ceremony on Friday, Chief Minister Sonowal was accompanied by Assam Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President and former Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly Ranjeet Kumar Dass, Haflong MLA Bir Bhadra Hagjer and the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) Debolal Gorlosa.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sonowal said, “The ideals of the personalities like Veer Dimalik Kemprai will always inspire the new generations.”
During the programme organised on the occasion, Chief Minister Sonowal also announced to provide an amount of Rs 15 lakh for protection of the statue and light and sound system.
It may be mentioned that the statue of Veer Dimalik Kemprai has been installed at the initiative of the All Kemprai Welfare Committee.
Chief Minister Sonowal, who was supposed to unveil a statue of Veer Sambhudhan Phonglo at Longkhor, a hill village in Maibang on the occasion of the 168th birth anniversary of Veer Sambhudhan Phonglo, he could not unveil the statue due to security reasons.
