Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) – Subodh Jaiswal has been appointed as the new Director of the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI). 

Subodh Jaiswal is a 1985-batch IPS (Indian Police Service) officer. 

Subodh Jaiswal will serve as the CBI director for two years. 

Subodh Jaiswal was appointed as the new CBI director after long deliberations between Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Justice of India (CJI) – N V Ramana and opposition leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.

He was chosen from a shortlist of three officers — the other two being SSB chief Kumar Rajesh Chandra and special secretary in Home Ministry VSK Kaumudi. 

Subodh Jaiswal had earlier served as the DGP of Maharashtra and also Commissioner of Mumbai Police. 

He was also part of the Intelligence Bureau and Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW).
