Young Mizo striker Lalremsiami has been selected to represent Indian women hockey’s 18-member squad at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
The Mizo striker was also a part of the Indian team which had recently toured South Korea. She scored three goals and played all the matches for India during the tour.
The Indian team will play in Pool A along with Malaysia, England, South Africa and Wales – against whom they’ll begin their campaign on April 5.
Born and brought up in Kolasib in Mizoram, Lalremsiami is a graduate from Mizoram’s elite Thenzawl Womens’ Hockey Training Centre. She played a vital role in India’s success at last years’ Asian Cup; she scored against Japan and Singapore.
Before making it to the senior level Lalremsiami shined at the 4th U-18 Asia Cup for India in 2016, where she became a young talent spotted by the senior team selectors. She scored three goals in the tournament and established herself as the shining star of the younger generation of Indian hockey.
“After the Indian team’s Korean Tour, I joined the Indian training camp at Bengaluru and luckily I have been selected to play for India in the upcoming Commonwealth Games,” Lalremsiami told Northeast Now.
