The controversial former legislator from Bokagkhat in Assam, Jiten Gogoi is set to don saffron robes.
The self-proclaimed ‘king of Kaziranga’ announced his decision to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) very soon on Thursday, his birthday.
The two time MLA from Bokakhat was embroiled in several controversies and was booked on several occasions for various offences.
Jiten Gogoi, who runs an NGO named ‘Bokakhat Nirmaan Gut’ announced on Thursday, while celebrating his 56th birthday that he will soon join the saffron party.
Gogoi contested earlier elections in the State as Independent candidate.
Though he said he has made a final decision to join the BJP, some formalities are yet to be done.
Gogoi said, his decision to join the BJP has been influenced by the principles and philosophy of the saffron party.
He further said that he has already started communication with the BJP leadership to facilitate his joining the party.
According to the former legislator, his NGO has been playing pro-active role in the last couple of Assembly elections in the State, apart from having crucial role in the civic polls in Bokakhat.
He further said that his NGO will offer open and full-fledged support to the BJP in the upcoming panchayat polls in the State and also during the ensuing Lok Sabha elections next year.
Notably, some Congress leaders were in touch with Gogoi lately raising speculations of him joining the Indian National Congress.
However, his Thursday’s announcement has surprised many in Bokakhat.
