The Covid-19 situation has worsened in North Assam’s Lakhimpur district with the death toll rose to eleven in the district.

According to the Lakhimpur district health department in a fact sheet released on Friday evening said one more person succumbed to Covid-19 in the last twenty-four hours.

The district presently has 988 Covid positive patients with 628 active cases, the fact sheet said.

On Friday, the single-day spike of the disease is 118 persons of which 16 are being hospitalized and 103 have opted for home isolation.

The Lakhimpur district authority declared a containment zone in Bangalmora area following a mass infection of 22 persons of the disease.

The 22 persons had attended a marriage function.

Following the death of a person on Wednesday, the district administration declared an area of 300 square meters in Kharkati-Baligaon village under Panigaon Police Station as a containment zone on Friday.

The village also has a community spread with ten infected persons.

The district health department also converted the Nursing Hostel of Lakhimpur Medical College Hospital (LMCH) in North Lakhimpur as Covid-19 treatment ward.

The facility could treat 80 patients, said the Superintendent of LMCH.
