Assam Police recovered arms on the eve of the counting day for the votes polled in the three phases of State Assembly elections.
The arms were recovered by the Assam Police from Diglipar forest area under Ultapani forest reserve in Assam’s Kokrajhar district on Saturday.
The recovered arms include three AK-56 rifles, one magazine and 65 rounds of live ammunition of AK-56 rifle.
Briefing media persons at Kokrajhar SP office on Saturday evening, Special DGP and in-charge of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) LR Bishnoi said, “Based on inputs regarding presence of arms and ammunitions, a combined operation was carried out this morning in Diglipar forest area and arms & ammunition were recovered.”
“No one has been arrested in this connection,” he said.
Meanwhile, an 18-year-old boy was apprehended from Karigaon area in connection with a bank robbery at Srirampur in Kokrajhar few days back.
Kokrajhar superintendent of police Rakesh Roushan said the boy, studying in Class 10 and four others were involved in the robbery at Bandhan Bank in Srirampur on April 26.
“They had looted Rs 5 lakh at gunpoint. One pistol was recovered from the boy,” the Kokrajhar SP said.
According to sources, the boy failed to clear the Class 10 final examination last year.
