Amid the deadly second wave of the Covid-19, the Assam government on Friday extended the night curfew in the state for 6 more days till May 7.

Issuing an order for the same, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said that the state-wide night curfew will remain in force till May 7, 2021.

The Assam government had on Tuesday imposed night curfew across the state from 8 pm to 5 am till May 1 as part of its measures to contain Covid-19 cases growing rapidly since the beginning of April.

Assam chief secretary Jishnu Baruah had said the decision to impose night curfew has been prompted by โ€œrapid increaseโ€ in the number of active Covid-19 cases and for the โ€œwell-being and safety of the peopleโ€.

Assam on Friday reported 26 COVID-19 deaths taking the death toll to 1,307 while 3,197 new cases pushed the tally to 2, 53,126.
