Maharashtra Government is reportedly planning to impose total lockdown in the State.

Possible lockdown in Maharashtra was discussed in the emergency State cabinet meeting held on Tuesday.

The Maharashtra Cabinet was unanimous on the imposition of strict lockdown for 15 days.

According to sources, an announcement on imposition of total lockdown in Maharashtra is likely to be made soon.

Sources informed that the lockdown in Maharashtra is likely to be imposed from Wednesday.

Speaking to the media after the cabinet meeting, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope informed that the entire cabinet requested CM Uddhav Thackeray to announce a complete lockdown in the state.

“We have requested the CM to announce a complete lockdown in the state from tomorrow at 8pm. This was the request of all ministers to CM, now it is his decision,” said Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope.

Speaking further on possible imposition of lockdown in Maharashtra, State minister Aslam Sheikh said that shortage of supply of medical oxygen is the reason behind planning total lockdown.

“Looking at the shortage of supply of medical oxygen, Maharashtra is heading towards a complete lockdown. Guidelines regarding it will be announced soon,” said Maharashtra Minister Aslam Sheikh.

Maharashtra Government will exempt medicine shops from the strict lockdown.

The notification will mention about the functioning of shops of essential commodities including milk, grocery and others and their timings.

Notably, the Maharashtra Government on April 14 had announced a 15-day janta curfew in the State.

However, the janta curfew announced by the Maharashtra Government failed to curb the rising cases of COVID-19.
