One person has died in Meghalaya due to Covid-19 related complications even as the state recorded a fresh spike of 121 positive cases in the state.
Health department officials said the deceased hailed from East Khasi Hills district.
The COVID-19 death toll has mounted to 152 in the State now. Eighty of the new cases have been reported from East Khasi Hills district, 26 from West Jaintia Hills, five each from Ri-Bhoi and East Jaintia Hills, two each from South West Khasi Hills and East Garo Hills, and one from North Garo Hills district.
The total active cases in the state currently stand at 565.
The East Khasi Hills administration has ordered the closure of shops, business establishments, markets and roadside stalls in Shillong on Sundays.
In exercise of the power conferred upon under section 144 CrPC, read together with Regulation 3 of the Meghalaya Epidemic Diseases, COV1D 19 Regulations 2020, the closure of shops and business establishment, markets and roadside vendors has been notified.
However, pharmacies and pharmaceutical stores have been exempted from the purview of the order issued by East Khasi Hills DC Isawanda Laloo.
“The order is necessitated based on the report received that a large number of shops, roadside markets and vendors in different areas across the city are operating on Sundays, which attract sizable crowds and public at a single point,” Laloo said.
