Karnataka chief minister BS Yediyurappa has tested positive for Covid-19.

BS Yediyurappa took to tweeter to share that he had tested positive for the novel coronavirus and got hospitalized on the advice of doctors.

The 78-year-old Yeddiyurappa was earlier hospitalised on August 2, 2020 after he tested positive for the deadly virus.

โ€œUpon having mild fever, today I got tested for Covid-19 and my report has come out positive. Although I am doing fine, I am being hospitalized based on the advice of doctors. I request all those who have come in my contact recently to be observant and exercise self-quarantine,โ€ he tweeted.

The chief minister had been campaigning over the last few days in the north Karnataka constituencies that are voting in bypolls on Saturday.

The announcement came a few hours after Yediyurappa chaired an emergency meeting with Health Minister K Sudhakar and top officials to discuss the Covid situation in the state.

Yediyurappa has so far ruled out a lockdown but curfew is in place in seven cities till April 20.

โ€œThere has been a worrying surge in Coronavirus cases. So we have discussed in detail for one and a half hours with our officers. We are going to take final decision on 20th. Until that time, same thing will continue,โ€ Yediyurappa told reporters.

Last year, Yediyurappa was admitted to Manipal Hospital after he along with his daughter Padmavathi tested positive.
