Congress candidate of Samsherganj constituency in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district, Rezaul Haque alias Mantu Biswas died of Covid-19 infections on Thursday.
He was admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata, a report stated.
Apart from the Congress candidate, two more candidates contesting the West Bengal assembly polls had recently tested positive for Covid-19.

Biswas had complained of respiratory distress following which he was rushed to a private hospital in Jangipur on Wednesday.
However, after his condition deteriorated doctors referred him to the hospital in Kolkata.
After the Congress candidate’s death, the Election Commission of India may defer polls to the Samsherganj assembly constituency.
The Samsherganj assembly constituency will go to polls in the seventh phase of the West Bengal assembly elections on April 26.
West Bengal Congress president Adhir Chowdhury has expressed his grief at the death of the Congress candidate.
