Forest department officials have reportedly stopped an โ€œillegal concrete construction,โ€ allegedly done by some Mizo people along the Assam-Mizoram border in Cachar district.

Based on specific information, a team of forest officials led by Cachar DFO Sunnydeo Choudhary rushed to Lailapur on the Assam-Mizoram border on Thursday and stopped โ€œillegal concrete construction,โ€ allegedly done by some Mizo people.

A forest official said the construction was carried out at a place which is approximately 600 metres from Lailapur beat office towards Mizoram.

โ€œSuch construction work cannot take place in the vicinity wherein neutral forces are deployed for vigil,โ€ DFO Choudhary told reporters.

Earlier, personnel of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and Border Security Force (BSF) were deployed along the Assam-Mizoram border in the wake of heightened tension.

Assam and Mizoram have differed on the boundary since 1972 when the latter was carved out of the former as a Union Territory.

The last incident of violence along the border was in March 2018 when members of the Mizo Studentsโ€™ Union tried to reconstruct a resting shed on disputed land that the Assam police personnel had demolished.
