Dhemaji district in North Assam has recorded 74.01 per cent voter turnout in the first phase of Assam Assembly elections on Saturday.
According to election officials, 113-Dhemaji (ST) LAC has recorded 73.10 percent turnout while 114-Jonai (ST) LAC recorded 75.01 percent turnout.

The average voter turnout of the district till 5.00 pm was 71.79 pc, election officials said.
Polling was completed in all 805 polling stations in the district.
Voting in many polling stations was lately started due to complaints of EVM glitches which were later repaired.

Voters were seen in long queues outside polling booths adhering to COVID-19 protocols.
Altogether 11 candidates including five in 113 Dhemaji (ST) constituency and six in 114 Jonai (ST) LAC are in the fray.
A sizable number of new (first-time) voters exercised their franchise in different polling stations.
The district got 19 additional companies of Central Armed Forces besides 8 companies of Sikkim Police, who were deployed for the smooth conduct of the election.
Except for an incident of poll-violence reported from Jonai, voting was peacefully ended in all polling booths in the district.
The poll-related group clash ensued between supporters of BJP and Congress over vote-rigging at 69-Amorpur LPS at around 1.00 pm, wherein three persons were severely injured.
One Khaddasing Doley, a BJP Yuva Morcha leader sustained a serious head injury in the clash, while Raja Pegu alias Naren Pegu and Ganesh Pegu of Sanmilita Gana Sakti, Asom workers received stab injuries.
Jonai police have registered a case in this regard. There are a total of 2, 47,222 voters in the Dhemaji constituency and 3, 08,183 in Jonai LAC.
