Just one week ahead of the first phase of the Assam Assembly election, BJP candidate Ajanta Neog has tested positive for the Covid-19.
She was tested for the virus for the second time within a span of seven months.
The former PWD minister, who has contested the Assembly election from the Golaghat constituency, tested positive for the virus on Saturday.
The election to the Golaghat constituency will be held in the first phase on March 27.
Congress turncoat Neog has been campaigning extensively in her constituency for the past few days.
After her test results coming out positive, it is believed, many of her supporters and followers who are busy campaigning with Neog are also likely to be infected by the virus.
Neog tested positive for coronavirus in August last year and underwent treatment at Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH).
Earlier on Friday, BJP MP Topon Kumar Gogoi was tested positive for the virus for the second time.
He had got himself tested at a screening centre at Sonari in upper Assam and the report came out positive.
Earlier in March last year, Gogoi tested positive for Covid-19 and administered plasma at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
Assam recorded 27 fresh cases on Saturday taking the state’s total active cases to 303.
