As many as 17 government school teachers in Assam’s Nalbari district are likely to face voluntary retirement for asking exemption from election duties.
In a letter, accessed by Northeast Now, the Nalbari district administration has recommended the Secondary Education Department voluntary retirement for 17 government school teachers, who have ‘prayed’ for exemption from election duty on medical grounds.
The Medical Board of Assembly Elections 2021 also found the 17 school teachers “unfit to perform election duty”.
“Medical fitness is essential for continuation in service. It appears that the incumbent have been found medically unfit but not on medical leave. It may be assumed that they are not fit for their service too. It is, therefore recommended that the employees may be asked to go on Voluntary Retirement from Service (VRS)” read the letter to the Secretary of the Assam secondary education department from Nalbari deputy commissioner.
