Mizoram Rajya Sabha member K. Vanlalvena called on Indian Vice President and Rajya Sabha chairman Venkaiah Naidu in New Delhi and urged the Centre’s intervention for restoration of peace in Myanmar.
Mizo National Front (MNF) leader Vanlalvena also urged the Centre to provide reliefs to the Myanmar nationals, who crossed the international border to take refuge in Mizoram in order to escape gross atrocities on pro-democratic protesters after the military coup.
The military junta seized control of the democratically elected Myanmar government on February 1.
Vanlalvena was accompanied by MNF party adviser Rosangzuala.
MNF is a member of the BJP-led North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA).
However, the party is not in alliance with the BJP in the state.
During his meeting with the Vice President, Vanlavena expressed his concern over the current political scenario in Myanmar and said the situation could go from bad to worse, said a statement issued by the state information and public relations department.

He also raised the need to open an examination centre in Aizawl for competitive exams conducted under Staff Selection Commission (SSC), the statement added.
Meanwhile, a state home department official said at least 383 Myanmar nationals have entered into five Mizoram districts till Monday since last month military coup in the neighbouring country.
