As Assam gears up for the Assembly elections 2021, the Cachar district is the state that has earned a place in the India Book of Records for the longest Rangoli on voter awareness.

According to a media report, the process to make Rangoli on an 8 km-long street in Dalu started at 5 pm on Saturday and was completed within 24 hours.

Dalu is located at the end of the East-West Corridor (Mahasadak).

The innovative Rangoli-making initiative was taken by the Cachar district administration as part of the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) campaign.

It has been reported that the record was set in presence of official observer from India Book of Records, Jitendra Kumar Jain.

After the successful completion of the Rangoli-making process, Jain declared it the longest street Rangoli in the country.

He informed that the attempt was the first of its kind in the country.

“We have never seen such an initiative taken to sensitise the voters in any part of the country. There is a possibility that this eight kilometres long street rangoli may have created a world record in the street art category but we are yet to examine this. If we see that there is a world record, we will surely announce it soon,” the report quoted Jain as saying.

The Rangoli-making process was participated by people from several sections of society students, tea garden workers, police, CRPF and army personnel along with Cachar deputy commissioner Keerthi Jalli.

Keerthi Jalli said the record for drawing the longest Rangoli in India is 4 km.

Saying that they were not running after any record, the Cachar DC said, “If it was only to break the record, a 4-and-a-half km-long Rangoli was enough.”

Jalli said their main objective of the initiative was to spread awareness among the voters and the district administration sought their involvement in the process.
