Utpal Bania, one of the youngest candidates in the fray in the Assam assembly elections will be contesting from the Raha assembly constituency in the Nagaon district.
Bania, who is also the founder of the popular Assamese jewellery brand DoogDoogi, will be contesting the elections on an Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) ticket.
The 30-year-old entrepreneur turned politician hails from the Ranthali village in Nagaon and filed his nomination papers recently.
Raha will go to the polls on April 1 in the second phase of the Assam assembly elections.
“I have been given an opportunity to serve the people of my state. Since the announcement of my candidature, I am meeting new people every day whose affections have humbled me,” said a report quoted Bania as saying.
Bania hoped that he is able to fulfill the aspirations of the people.

The young entrepreneur had begun his jewellery business with just a small investment and over time succeeded in developing it into one of the most popular Assamese jewellery brands.
While the BJP has not fielded any candidate from the Raha constituency, the AGP has fielded Bishnu Das from the constituency.
While the Congress has fielded Sashi Kanta Das here, Guneswar Das will contest as an independent this time.
Das had contested the 2016 state assembly elections as an AIUDF candidate and had lost.
A total of 2,17,582 eligible voters of the Raha assembly constituency will cast their votes in the elections this time.
