Assam Assembly Election: Six BJP-AGP ministers’ assets increased by up to 349% in 5 years

Assets of six Assam ministers, who are contesting the state assembly polls, have increased by up to 349 per cent in the last five years — between 2016 and 2021.

The assets of six ministers–Naba Doley, Ranjit Dutta, Atul Bora, Keshab Mahanta, Jogen Mahan and Sanjay Kishan— who are contesting in the first phase of the Assam Assembly election, have increased many folds during the last five years, India Today reported.

Panchayat and Rural development minister Naba Doley assets increased by 349 per cent in the last five years, as revealed in the affidavit submitted by him during filing of nomination papers.

The current value of Naba Doley’s total assets is around Rs 25.52 crore.

In his affidavit, Doley declared that his movable assets are worth Rs 6,15,14,617 and immovable assets worth Rs 19,37,64,000. In 2016, Doley declared total assets of Rs 7, 30,00,355.

Doley is contesting from the Dhakuakhana constituency.

AGP president and state’s agriculture minister Atul Bora’s assets increased by Rs 1.26 crore between 2016 and 2021.

Bora, who is contesting from Bokakhat LAC, in his affidavit stated that his movable assets are worth Rs 2,36,99,389 and immovable assets worth Rs 1,31,89,500.

In 2016, the AGP president declared that he had total assets worth Rs 2, 42,44,424.

AGP executive president and minister Keshab Mahanta has a total assets worth Rs 3,45,34,524 and has increased by 203 per cent in the last five years.

Mahanta, who is contesting from the Kaliabor constituency, stated that his movable assets are worth Rs 1,92,84,524 and immovable assets worth Rs 1,52,50,000.

BJP leader and irrigation minister Ranjit Dutta , who is contesting from the Behali constituency, said the current value of his total assets is worth Rs 6,02,78,496 and has increased by Rs 3.70 crore between 2016 and 2021.

Minister Jogen Mahan, who is contesting from the Mahmara constituency, declared the current value of his total assets at Rs 1,33,61,526.

Mahan’s assets increased by 241 per cent in the past five years.

Mahan stated that his movable assets are worth Rs 56,61,526 and immovable assets worth Rs 77 lakh.

In 2016, Jogen Mahan had declared that he had total assets worth Rs 55,26,103.

Another minister, Sanjay Kishan’s property increased by 274 per cent between 2016 and 2021.

Kishan said in his affidavit that he had total assets of Rs 55,35,958.

A total of 281 candidates have filed their nominations for 47 assembly constituencies going to poll in first phase on March 27.
