Former Mizoram finance minister and three-time Congress legislator Lalsawta has been appointed as the new vice president of the party.

Congress president and former chief minister Lal Thanhawla announced Lalsawta’s appointment as the new vice president of the party during a political session at Congress Bhavan in Aizawl on Monday.

Lal Thanhawla said that the meeting of the party political affairs committee on Sunday unanimously appointed Lalsawta to replace the incumbent vice president H. Liansailova, who resigned last year.

Liansailova resigned as Congress vice president in November last year citing personal engagement with church ministry.

Lalsawta had successfully contested the state assembly polls three times in 1993, 2008 and 2013.

The 75-year-old Congress leader was included in Lal Thanhawla’s cabinet during 2008-2013 and had been the state finance minister during 2013-2018.
