Several schools in Meghalaya’s Garo Hills districts remained closed on Monday as the SSA teachers boycotted classes demanding fulfillment of their various demands.

The All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association has announced a week-long boycott of classes from Monday.

The teachers’ body has been demanding the release of their eight months’ arrear salary as per the Project Approval Board (PAB).

The association said multiple memorandums to release the pending arrear from 2016-17 have been ignored by the government.

“Our decision to protest comes from the frustration of submitting our petitions to the concerned authorities from 2017,” said a press release.

According to the office-bearers of the district teachers association, the schools remained closed as part of the boycott call.
