Three youths from Upper Assam have come up with an app, TipTeapi, which can well be India’s answer to the globally renowned TikTok app.
Tip Teapi, developed by Saswati Kotoky, Dergaon, Amarjyoti Gautam, Jorhat and Himanga Madhukalya of Dibrugarh, all MCA PG degree holders from Jorhat Engineering College, purports to work exactly like TikTok, the video playing and sharing app, primarily for entertainment purpose.

TipTeapi, which is a free app and can be downloaded from the Google Play Store will be available for users in India and a few other countries.
It was launched on Saturday at the Jorhat Press Club.
Saswati, who is in charge of sales, marketing, HR & legal, said they have come up with the app with an aim to provide a platform for people to showcase their talents in various categories like funny, cooking, drama, music, art, science and education.

There are 12 categories in total. People can upload their own videos which could be viewed by others.
Like Tiktok, one can make friends, follow, like and share videos.
“The users can like, comment and share the videos through social media,” Saswati said.
Saswati said the app is safe and secure having privacy protection unlike Chinese apps.
Regarding any objectionable material getting uploaded, Saswati said that if any such incidents occurred and complaint was received from any user or viewer they would look into it and block the video, if required.
Speaking about how the idea to form a start-up and develop an app took shape, Amarjyoti who is chief product engineer said that after obtaining the PG degrees in 2019 the three of them decided to do something else on their own, rather than search for jobs.
He said with COVID19 pandemic paralysing normal life and economic activities they went ahead to form an app for entertainment and other usages.
Himango, the database and service engineer in the group said they got help from an alumnus of a JEC, based in the US, who provided Rs 10 lakh funding to set up the start-up.
He said it took six months to make the app and they have plans to release the app outside India later on.
He said that pages containing information about the app have been opened on Facebook and Instagram.
Dhimam Bhattacharjee, technical officer, advanced computation and Data services, was the chief guest at the function.
