Oil India Limited (OIL) has adopted the industrial training institute (ITI) in Lahowal as a centre of excellence.

The national exploration and production company signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Assam directorate of employment and craftsmen training (DECT) in Guwahati on Tuesday.

Assam industry and commerce minister Chandra Mohan Patowary and KK Dwivedi, principal secretary to the industries and commerce department were also present on the occasion.

Prasanta Borkakoty, executive director (HR&A) of OIL and Ruby Sarmah, director of DECT signed the MoU.

Although the infrastructure of the ITI in Lahowal has been constructed, it is yet to be operational.

An institute management committee headed by a representative from OIL as chairman will be formed to see to the operational aspect of the institute.

OIL will extend all necessary support to the Lahowal ITI for transforming it into a centre of excellence.
