Assam Rifles troops recovered unaccounted Indian currency notes amounting to Rs. 80 lakh in Zokhawthar area under Champhai district of Mizoram near the India-Myanmar border.
One person was apprehended by the Assam Rifles team in connection with the case.
The operation was carried out by the Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of the Headquarters of the Inspector General of Assam Rifles (East).
The recovery has been termed as another success in the crusade of the Assam Rifles against smuggling and other anti-national activities.
The operation was carried out by a team of Assam Rifles in coordination with Young Mizo Association (YMA) representatives based on specific information.
The police later seized the unaccounted Indian currency notes recovered from the possession of the detained individual.
“Assam Rifles over the years have been a force reckoned to fight the smuggling menace in Mizoram, extensive anti-seizure operations have been successful in thwarting the smuggling nexus along the Indo-Myanmar border,” Assam Rifles said.
