The Northeast Frontier Railways (NFR) has identified three high density networks (HDN) and two highly utilized networks (HUN) routes for capacity enhancement through doubling of the track by March 2024.
The HDN routes are New Bongaigaon – Rangiya – Agthori, Ambari Falakata – New Maynaguri and New Maynaguri – Gumanihat sections.
HUN routes are New Bongaigaon – Goalpara – Kamakhya and Digaru – Hojai sections.
This is being done to achieve the target of 2024 MT freight loading by the year 2024 as has been envisaged in the “Vision 2024” document that was released by the Indian Railways recently.
The NFR has also targeted to complete the double line of the Lumding – Furkating section by 2024.
Moreover, work for doubling of the Katihar – Kumedpur and Katihar – Mukuria sections have also been undertaken.
With this, the entire section of NFR up to Furkating will have a double line track by 2024 which will help to further increase train movements towards the Northeastern region.
The NRF is also carrying out the electrification work up to Guwahati, which is scheduled to be completed by June this year
While the work for the section between Guwahati and Lumding is targeted to be completed by August, this year.
All other remaining sections of NFR are likely to be commissioned by March, 2023.
The NFR will also take up the work of provision of Train Collision Avoidance System to improve safety in train operation, enable train operation in foggy weather and eliminate cases of signal overshooting and over speeding.
Trains will be able to run at a speed of 130kmph in the entire mainline portion of NFR once all goals envisaged in the Vision 2024 document are achieved.
