The first consignment of the Covishield vaccine arrived in Manipur on Wednesday.
The Serum Institute of India in Pune has developed the Covishield vaccine.
The first consignment of the vaccine comprised of 54,000 doses.
Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh took to Twitter to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Covid-19 vaccine.

“This day marks a new dawn as we received the first consignment of 54,000 doses Covishield vaccine from SII,Pune. I join the nation in thanking Hon’ble PM Shri. @narendramodi and our brilliant scientists for delivering the Covid vaccine in record time. Vaccination starts on 16 Jan,” N Biren Singh tweeted on Wednesday.

On the other hand, the first consignment of Covid-19 vaccines for Assam and Meghalaya arrived in Guwahati on Tuesday evening.
The consignment comprised of 2 lakhs 76 thousand doses for both states.
The mass vaccination campaign against Covid-19 will begin in India on January 16.
